MB welcomes Lim’s bid to help resolve TNB cable issue

SHAH ALAM: Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has welcomed Selangor MCA chief Datuk Donald Lim’s decision to attend the coming Selangor Economic Action Council meeting.
The meeting on Thursday is being held to resolve the issue of high voltage cable installation by TNB in Kampung Sungai Terentang in Rawang.
Abdul Khalid said the Deputy Finance Minister, who is also an MCA vice-president, would be able to meet with TNB and state-government appointed consultants to have a clearer picture on what caused the stalemate between TNB and the villagers.
“We will have a discussion with TNB and the consultant appointed by the state government to discuss about the research findings on the issue,” he said, adding that it would be the fifth meeting with TNB on the issue.
“If Lim attends, he will be able to meet TNB, consultants and representatives involved, so that we can reach a decision,” Khalid said after attending the state government’s assembly and 2011 Innovation Day celebration at the state secretariat yesterday.
Khalid was asked to comment on Lim’s statement in Parliament recently for the mentri besar to settle the issue as the area was under the jurisdiction of the state government.
Lim said he had received a directive from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to deal with the issue after the Prime Minister received a memorandum from the Rawang Residents’ Association seeking his intervention during a visit to Rawang recently.
Lim said the residents were objecting to the installation of high voltage cables by TNB in Kampung Sungai Terentang under the Central Area Reinforcement (CAR) project costing RM400mil.
He said the state government had promised to resolve their dilemma but had not done so, adding that he wanted to find a fair solution for both parties.
Lim said the CAR project was started in 2005 and when completed would increase power output from 33 kilovolts (kV) to 275kV and help overcome power shortage in Klang Valley.
“But because the residents opposed it, the proposed works have since remained suspended without the state government acting on it,” he had said.
It was also reported earlier this month that the villagers had temporarily stopped TNB workers from starting work on the CAR project.
