Low-cost flats shortchanged

Selangor  Housing, Building Development and Squatters committee chairman Iskandar Abdul Samad has urged Joint Management Bodies of low-cost housing schemes to beware of companies requesting to paint their buildings and in return put up advertisement boards.

Iskandar said he had received complaints in Ampang and Hulu Kelang against companies that had put up advertisement boards on one side of the block without fulfilling their pledge to paint the whole building.

He said these companies did not pay the JMBs monthly or yearly fees for the advertisement.

"These companies target flats in strategic areas near the MRR2, LRT and bus stations."

"It is fine to put up advertistments but the companies should fulfill their word and paint the entire building, including the corridor and stairways,’’ said Iskandar, who visited Block 79 in Jalan 24/1 in Section 24, Shah Alam, where the building was being given a new coat of paint."

Iskandar was checking on the progress of the painting work at the site.

Also present was PKNS property management manager Ishak Hashim and Seamaster Paint private project division sales manager Anthony Loh.

The Selangor State Economic Development Board (PKNS) is spending about RM5mil to paint 120 blocks of low-cost apartments throughout the state as part of its corporate social responsibility programme that will run until March next year.

Iskandar said the low-cost apartments in Ulu Kelang, Pandan, Ampang and Shah Alam would be painted under the programme.

"I also hope that apartment maintenance companies do their part in painting the buildings every five years", he said.
