One should not forget the effort of one’s ancestors in building and preserving heritage buildings.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said such buildings are now generating great value to the state following its listing and global recognition as a Unesco Heritage Site.
“Various organisations have come together and contributed to enable Penang to obtain such an international status. We must also be grateful to our ancestors for their foresight in constructing such buildings.
“What must be done now is to ensure that the management of the heritage areas is in accordance to the Unesco standards,” he said when visiting the Chinese New Year Cultural and Heritage Celebration 2012 on Armenian Street recently.
Koh, who is also Gerakan president and former state chief minister here, said that efforts to preserve, conserve and redevelop heritage sites are important, as they can bring economic prosperity to Penang.
