Effort to make businesses legal

Business and property owners in Jalan SS2/75, SS2/55 and SS2/66, Petaling Jaya, are encouraged to give feedback on the Special Area Draft Plan (RKK) 2020 until Feb 29.
Petaling Jaya councillor Tony Cheong encouraged residents to consider asking for a change in land status from residential to limited commercial.
Cheong said there were many illegal businesses and a change to limited commercial use would enable them to operate legally.
There are about 50 bridal shops and other businesses in 72 houses in the area.
“It will be useful and safe for them if they could give their feedback of the RKK, which was launched earlier this month, on changing the land use from residential to limited commercial.
“The businesses here have spent so much money and it would only be logical if they can ask for a change to make their businesses legal.
“Limited commercial land use is not for food outlets and wholesale business. It is more for services like bridal shops and clinics,” he said.
All feedback would be followed up with a hearing session where we would take in comments from other neighbours and residents,” he said.
Cheong said he was also looking for feedback from residents on a proposal to relocate the SS2 market.
He said the market in Jalan SS2/62 was affecting traffic in the area.
“The proposal is relocate the market onto the field in Jalan SS2/63 so that we can turn Jalan SS2/62 into a carpark. As it is, hawkers have set up stalls along the road,” he said.
