IPOH: The state Public Works Department is keeping an eye on landslide-prone hillslopes in view of the current monsoon season.
Its director Datuk Dr Safry Kamal Ahmad said the department’s personnel were out on the field, checking for signs of erosion.
“Top on the list is Route 59 of the Tapah-Cameron Highlands stretch where we have identified more than 30 hotspots,” he said yesterday.
“Of the 30, we have carried out repair works on three,” he said, adding that the department had constructed retaining walls and re-profiled the slope.
Other dangerous areas are Route 185 of the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands route, Route 4 of the Gerik Highway-Jeli and Route 76 in Pengkalan Hulu.
“On Route 185, we are repairing Km33 and Km44 of the road with part of the RM16mil special allocation from the Works Ministry,” he said.
Allaying fears that the slopes would collapse at any time soon, Dr Safry said its current condition was “still manageable”.
“If the people see any tell-tale signs of erosion, they can contact us,” he added.
