Perakians can look forward to having better and added healthcare facilities in the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh with a RM300mil upgrading in place.
State executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the upgrading included a maternity and childcare ward and a cardiology unit.
While waiting for the facilities to be completed, Dr Mah said a cardiologist had been stationed in the hospital a year ago to treat heart patients.
A child cardiologist would also be brought in soon, he said, adding that this would reduce the need for patients to travel to other places for treatment.
A cardiologist by training, Dr Mah, who is the Chenderiang assemblyman, has been checking patients using an echocardiogram in the Tapah Hospital for about a year.
He said he had checked hundreds of patients to date and referred them for follow-up treatment.
Dr Mah said the Tapah Hospital, to be upgraded to become the teaching hospital for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar), would include an operation theatre and six sub specialists treatment.
On the Taiping Hospital, he said a RM180mil new service block would be completed this year.
